Composting site selection
A number of points need to be addressed:
- Research into the possible scale of the facility
- Assess quality and quantity of local feedstock supplies and site access
- Does the site already have any planning permissions or waste licensing?
- Is there any contamination as a result of previous site industry?
- Does the site have utilities?
- Proximity to dwellings (existing or proposed), industry, waterways or protected species will effect regulations for the site. Prevailing winds and the site's visible impact will need to be considered.
For a list of organisations offering potentially suitable composting sites (not just in the North East), for sale or to let, visit Compost-me.uk.
Once you have found a suitable site the next step is to gain planning permission and waste management licensing or exemption.
